About Me

“If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive.” ~ Eleonora Duse

Lesley Wilson

Hi. I’m Lesley, and my soul is never more alive than when I’m walking through a quiet forest, trudging over a verdant field, or spying on a busy bee gathering sweet nectar. Spending time in nature removes the stresses of everyday life, fills the heart with gladness, and makes the problems of a fast-moving world fade away.

An amateur photographer to be sure, but I simply adore the art of taking pictures. And I can think of no greater pleasure than to share them with others who also love our natural world.

I’ve been toting a camera around with me to all the big life events for over 35 years (the birthdays, weddings, Christmas gatherings, etc.). However, my entire outlook was transformed in the summer of 2013 after I had purchased a new digital camera and inadvertently discovered the world of macro photography, taking pictures of small objects and creatures that exist all around us. A spark was ignited and a door was opened to a new chapter in my creative life.

With that epiphany, I really started exploring the artistry of photography. It was no longer enough just to snap a picture of a pretty sunset or a colourful posy of flowers. I had to get the ultimate shot, the one you wait patiently for breathless minutes or maybe even hours to capture: the tiny jumping spider peeking out from behind a zinnia bud, the dragonfly perched on a delicate twig with its wings spread wide, the seed of a dandelion dangling precariously, waiting to be liberated from the orb by a gentle gust of wind.

I have thousands of photos and it can be very difficult to be objective about one’s own work. This site is a collection of some of my favourite photos, the ones of which I’m most proud.

Although I’ll photograph just about anything that catches my eye, my preference is shooting anything in nature: animals, insects, flowers, birds. And I absolutely love the world of macros. People, you have no idea the amazing and fascinating world that exists all around us! So get down on your hands and knees and start looking through blades of grass, into the recesses of flowers, under rocks. Discover what has been there all along. And remember: never harm or interfere with any living thing (unless you are in danger).

I live and work in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
